Following the emergence of Francis Coquelin as a viable and effective option in defensive midfield for Arsene Wenger, it is believed that the Gunners’ interest in Obernai-born Schneiderlin has cooled.

However, that’s not to say that the France international isn’t still set for a summer move away from Southampton.

The midfielder has made it clear that he is desperate to compete in the Champions League, and while the Saints may have entertained hopes of a spot in Europe’s elite competition next season, that opportunity appears to have passed them by.

Le 10 Sport have suggested that Chelsea may be primed to step in and give Schneiderlin the Champions League football he craves.

It is believed that a fee in the region of €35 million would be required to prise the established Premier League midfielder away from St. Mary’s. A Tottenham Hotspur offer of €13.5 million was rejected last summer, but Mauricio Pochettino may also return for the former Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace player.
