David Moyes’ Real Sociedad have also been linked to the 22-year-old, who has nine Premier League goals this season. Although this doesn’t seem like many, it is in a struggling Clarets side who have only scored 26 times in total.

With his deal ending in the summer, the England Under 21 international is set to leave Turf Moor on a free transfer. There will be a small fee set by a transfer tribunal because of his age, but it is unlikely to be near what the club could have got had they sold him under contract.

Ings has made it clear in the past that he wants to go to a club that will play him regularly in the first team, according to the Star. He may be more likely to do this at Anfield, where they often play with two strikers and only currently have Daniel Sturridge who is sure to stay at the club next season in that position.
