This will be a boost to manager Brendan Rodgers, who has also got Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho to sign new deals this season. Vice-captain Jordan Henderson is also expected to put pen to paper in the near future.

Skrtel’s contract ends in a year, and there had been some interest from Napoli and Wolfsburg according to the report. However, the 30-year-old has shunned their advances and looks ready to stay at Anfield for at least the next few seasons.

Meanwhile, Ibe has broken in to the first team after an impressive loan period at Derby County. The Reds may have wanted to give him a new deal to ward off any potential suitors for the forward.

The Merseyside club will now be hoping that Raheem Sterling joins the growing list of players who have committed themselves to the team.
