Despite that, Skrtel’s agent Karol Csonto claims his client is almost ready to sign on the dotted line of an extension with the Reds.

He said, “The only offer which is lying on Martin Skrtel’s table right now is the extension of his contract from Liverpool. We have been working on the details, and we will be finalising it soon.

“It is not true that he has some offer from the German club. I don’t know anything even about their interest.”

Skrtel has been at Anfield since Rafael Benitez brought him to the club from Zenit St. Petersburg in the January 2008 transfer window, for a fee of £6.5m.

He has been an impressive figure since his arrival, imposing his physical presence on the Premier League and it is understandable his services would want to be retained.
