Manchester United are reportedly preparing a stunning offer for Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi, as they are willing to meet his £36m release-clause.

Reports claim that the Red Devils had an initial bid of €35m rejected in the January transfer window, but are set to return with an improved offer in the summer.

According to Deporte Valenciano, Manchester United are prepared to reach an agreement for the centre-back at any costs – and it will be pricey given the Argentine’s huge buy-out clause.

Otamendi has a whopping €50m release-clause written into his contract, but Louis van Gaal believes the 27-year-old is worth every penny – and wants to secure a deal.

The Argentina international is a regular in the starting line-up for Valencia, and is a firm fan-favourite at the Mestalla Stadium. He joined the La Liga outfit in February 2014, and has been described as a ‘bargain’ signing in Spanish reports following his impressive performances in a Los Che shirt.

Louis van Gaal is constantly being linked to a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels but perhaps, despite all the intense speculation, the Dutchman’s gaze has everted elsewhere.
