Arsenal transfer news.

Even though French battler Francis Coquelin has impressed since breaking back into the Gunners starting eleven it’s clear that Arsene Wenger could do with another central midfield option with the likes of Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta struggling with form and fitness and 23 year old Portuguese international Carvalho could be the ideal man for the job.

The north London side apparently attempted to land Carvalho last summer and now that Sporting Lisbon have dropped their asking price to a very affordable £21.5m, a deal is back on.

The Metro claims the fee has been agreed and that a move is imminent, with Carvalho keen to make the switch from the Primeira Liga to the Premier League.

Arsenal have a host of creative midfield talents and Wenger’s side lack balance in terms of players who can offer protection to their defence and Carvalho has shown enough quality over the past 18 months to suggest he could be the right man for the job.

Carvalho helped Sporting to a runners-up finish last season and was part of Paulo Bento’s 2014 World Cup squad.
