It had been feared that the World Cup winner would miss the match against their local rivals after he was forced off with an ankle injury during their 2-1 extra time FA Cup semi final win over Reading last weekend. January signing Gabriel Paulista had looked likely to take the place of the fan favourite, but now it looks like the Brazilian might have to wait for his chance.

The Gunners need a victory at the Emirates on Sunday in order to consolidate second place in the Premier League. If they lose both Manchester United and Manchester City could overtake them and leave the North London club in fourth. However, after nine successive wins in all competitions manager Arsene Wenger is surely confident of ending his 13 game winless run against Jose Mourinho.

With Mertesacker back in the fold, can Arsenal get the win they so dearly want against their fierce rivals?
