The Daily Star claims that the Red Devils are determined to keep Falcao despite a disappointing season-long stint which has seen him score only four goals.

Boss Louis van Gaal is said to be impressed with the way in which he fits in to his style of play and will ask the board of directors to put the wheels in motion for a permanent switch.

However, United are believed to be reluctant to meet Monaco’s £43.5m asking price, and will seek to renegotiate when the summer transfer window opens.

Chicharito, meanwhile, appears to be heading towards the Old Trafford exit door even though his stock rose during the week courtesy of the winner in Real Madrid’s 1-0 Champions League quarter-final, second leg triumph over bitter rivals Atletico Madrid.

He is not said to be part of van Gaal’s plans and can leave if one of his suitors makes an acceptable bid.

United are expected to spend big again this summer in an attempt to push for the Premier League title next season.
