The £55m rated Uruguayan is unhappy with continually being played in a wide-attacking role and having done so for two seasons the former Napoli man will push for a summer transfer.

Louis van Gaal is known to be a big fan of the powerful South American and the poor form shown by loaned in AS Monaco man Radamel Falcao and Dutch international Robin van Persie would surely only heighten the Man United manager’s interest.

The 28 year old showed what he is capable of in his more preferred central role on the weekend when he bagged a brace in PSG’s 6-1 win over Lille, a triumph achieved without star Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s involvement.

Cavani will have seen how his fellow compatriot Luis Suarez enjoyed his time in the Premier League and may well be tempted by a move to Man United, though one imagines van Gaal will need to have secured Champions League qualification to stand any chance of landing the PSG man.
