The 26 year old Mexican is currently on loan at Real Madrid and this source claims Louis van Gaal has no intention of welcoming the forward back into his Old Trafford squad, heightening the chances of a permanent exit.

Real Madrid are reticent about meeting Man United’s £7.5m valuation and this could leave the way clear for Southampton boss Ronald Koeman to strike.

The south-coast side have experienced a down-turn in form since the turn of the year but could still secure European football for next term.

Hernandez has been chiefly a bench warmer at the Bernabeu this term but has netted six La Liga goals and scored Real Madrid’s crucial winner in their Champions League quarter-final win over Atletico Madrid earlier this month.
