‘Today’s a public holiday’: Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard’s slip one year on – the best Twitter reaction

April 27, 2015 marks the one year anniversary of Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard’s infamous slip against Chelsea at Anfield. The Reds skipper fell on the ball game which cost his team a first Premier League title in over two decades. Naturally, Twitter wind-up merchants were in no mood to let the day pass without bringing it up.

Cast your minds back to exactly one year ago to this date and the Merseyside outfit were on course to be crowned champions of England as they required seven points from their remaining three games to complete the achievement.

First of those three was a match against a weakened Chelsea side who had one eye on their Champions League semi-final second leg date with Atletico Madrid three days later.

Right on the stroke of half-time came the moment that Gerrard may never live down as his slip gifted Demba Ba the opener and the Blues would go on to win the game 2-0 and Liverpool would eventually finish second to Manchester City.

It can be argued that neither the former England captain or the club have recovered from that costly moment and it is safe to say that those on Twitter still find the moment hilarious one year on..
