The Blues have been linked with the 23-year-old in recent weeks as they look to rebuild their squad with home-grown talent and after seeing reported target Jordan Henderson sign a new deal at Liverpool last week, it appears they will turn to the fit-again Gunners midfielder.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini may face a struggle to lure away the England international as Arsene Wenger has made it abundantly clear that he wants to keep hold of the midfielder, but a huge bid could tempt the Frenchman to consider a deal as he has plenty of options in that area at his disposal.

Wilshere has not played for the first team since being injured against Manchester United in November last year. He has been a unused substitute in the last two games and faces a uphill battle to force way into the starting XI given the form of Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin and Aaron Ramsey.

Should the Gunners man make the switch to Manchester he will follow Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor, Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri and Bacary Sagna who have all swapped the Emirates for the Etihad Stadium in recent years.
