The goal may come as encouraging news for Southampton fans, with their club linked to the Netherlands international ahead of a potential summer move, via the Sun.

With Nathaniel Clyne being eyed by Manchester United and Manchester City [according to the Mirror], the Saints could be in need of fresh blood at right-back during the upcoming transfer window.

Despite his fine showing this evening, van der Wiel hasn’t always convinced at PSG—failing to deliver on his early promise—and it is believed that the club would be willing to listen to offers this summer.

The French giants have been linked to both Dani Alves and Ricardo van Rhijn, while Serge Aurier—currently on loan at the club from Toulouse—may be signed permanently.

This evening, van der Wiel demonstrated the class that once made him such an exciting prospect, cutting inside from the right flank to fire a shot past the (sub-standard) Anthony Mfa Mezui.
