Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he will need to make a few ‘marquee signings’ this summer following their shock 1-0 defeat to Hull on Tuesday night, according to the Daily Express.

The game, which secured back-to-back victories for Steve Bruce’s men, has virtually ended Liverpool’s hopes of landing the final Champions League spot, having collected just four points from a possible 15.

And he has already admitted that he is already thinking of bringing new faces on board even though he has called his current crop of stars to finish the season strongly as they owe an obligation to their fans to give them something to cheer about.

“We have to look to improve the squad again which every big club will do,” said Rodgers, whose side are not assured of Europa League football. “For fans and players it’s great to get those marquee players.

“They’re maybe the one or two we need and the owners will support that. If they’re available and affordable within the model then we will look to get them,” he said.

“We won 10 out of 13 and were playing catch up for lots of the season and got ourselves in a great position.

“But we lost a couple of big games which did hurt our confidence a bit. The challenge for me for next year is building a team that can get through the rough waters as well. That will be critical for us. When there are times of season when it is tough, we have to get through that.”

After crashing out of the FA Cup at the semi final stage, all that’s left for the Reds to play for is a spot in the much maligned Europa League.
