The 26-year-old hasn’t played since suffering a knee injury against Manchester City last April. The ligament problem also ruled him out of appearing in the World Cup, which the forward had looked set to be picked for beforehand.

The England international was applauded back on to the training pitch by his teammates, and now several clubs will be watching to see if he can return the same player after such a serious injury. Liverpool, Tottenham, and Manchester City are supposed to the trio interested.

Meanwhile, the Citizens need quality English players to fulfil the ‘home-grown’ rule, with their squad potentially running low after the next transfer window. They will also want footballers who can help them challenge more seriously for the title next time round.
