The Argentine winger has not had the best of times at White Hart Lane since moving to London from AS Roma last season, scoring just six goals in 59 appearances and looking a shadow of the player who lit up Serie A with his performances.

According to the Daily Mirror, Tottenham want to adopt a more cautious approach in the transfer market this summer, with manager Mauricio Pochettino ready to break up the squad made up of Lamela, Roberto Soldado and other failed buys from the ill-fated summer of 2013.

Lamela was one of many big names brought in, with Soldado, Paulinho and Christian Eriksen also snapped up, and only the latter really proving to be a success.

It remains to be seen if any clubs will come in for the 23-year-old, who could prove an expensive and risky signing.
