The Reds could cash in on their want-away England wide-man, who has proven himself to be a tremendous young player but one with a difficult personality after lengthy delays to signing a new contract at Anfield.

This could persuade manager Brendan Rodgers to let him leave if a good enough offer comes in, with City known to be big admirers of the 20-year-old.

In turn, Liverpool could then afford a £30m move to sign Aston Villa striker Benteke, who has been in superb goalscoring form recently and could make a great addition upfront.

In a detailed report from the Daily Mirror, it is also claimed that the Merseyside giants could be in pole position to land PSV forward Depay ahead of Manchester United, with the Dutch starlet an ideal like-for-like replacement for Sterling.
