According to the Daily Mail, their return to the Champions League – which now looks all but sealed with a seven point lead over Liverpool – as well as their lucrative sponsorship deal with Adidas will enable Louis van Gaal to strengthen his resources with four major signings.

The Mail report that their main target for the summer is Real Madrid star Gareth Bale. And with their financial position now looking stronger, United will now be able to discuss a cash-only offer, thus avoiding the prospect of losing David De Gea to complete a deal.

However, there would still be money in the bank to bring in Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund, Memphis Depay of PSV Eindhoven, and Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne.

If United are able to land all four targets, then it will show their intent to land another title as soon as possible. However, as we have seen with the likes of Angel Di Maria this season, the pressure to succeed will be piled on from the moment they put pen to paper and become a Manchester United player.
