The 21-year-old has been on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough this season. His 19 goals for Boro have helped them qualify for the play-off places and stay with a chance of being promoted to the Premier League. Netting against Liverpool and Manchester City has proved that the forward is capable at the highest level, and the striker was also named the Championship player of the season.

This has piqued the interest of several Premier League sides, including the Magpies. The Toon are in need of some fresh faces in their squad after a terrible second half of the campaign. They have lost their last seven matches under John Carver, who took over from Alan Pardew part way through the season.

Bamford could be a good reinforcement up front, and is needed with the team only managing 36 goals in the Premier League. A loan move could also be important for the forward’s development, getting some top flight experience without having to compete against Diego Costa and Loic Remy at Stamford Bridge.
