The Gunners are apparently keen on bringing in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, and the Germany international could take the Spaniard’s place in the side. The 33-year-old has suffered with injuries this season, playing only 10 times for the North London club. The form of Francis Coquelin also means that it is difficult to get in to the side even when fit.

Gundogan’s contract ends after the next campaign, and he has already announced that he will not renew it. This means that any bids for the 24-year-old this summer will surely be seriously considered by BVB. It will be their last chance to make any money off the player, and may want to give incoming manager Thomas Tuchel some funds to reinforce the team.

Despite this news, Arteta is still set to sign a new deal at the Emirates. The 33-year-old’s current contract ends in the summer, and he is close to a new 12 month deal according to the Star.
