Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon was special for captain Steven Gerrard as he scored the winner in his penultimate game at Anfield.

The Reds skipper, who will leave the club at the end of the season to join MLS side La Galaxy, returned to the starting line-up after missing the 1-0 defeat by Hull City in midweek and proved his worth once again to rescue three points for the home side as they were being held 1-1 at the time by the Hoops on Merseyside.

It was an eventful game for the former England captain as he missed from the penalty spot in the 79th minute but he was able to make amends by heading in a Philippe Coutinho corner with three minutes left as the home side won for the first time in three outings.
