Barcelona have extended the lead in their La Liga clash against rock-bottom Cordoba as Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez have made it 4-0 with a the former scoring rare headed goal just minutes after the break.

The Argentine added to further first-half efforts from Ivan Rakitic and Suarez to give the Catalan giants a comfortable 3-0 lead and put them well on their way to making it six successive victories in all competitions.

The Cordoba defence allowed Messi a free run at the ball following a cross from the right hand side and he made no mistake by burying the header into the net.

Then a few minutes later Suarez scored his second of the game and fourth of the week as he too found the net with a headed effort to all but seal a comprehensive victory for the visitors.

Manager Luis Enrique can now afford to rest some of his key players with the Champions League semi-final tie against Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich on the horizon.

They are set to open up a five-point lead over fierce rivals and second placed Real Madrid who face a tricky test later on in the day against a Seviila side that is unbeaten at home in the league this season
