The 25-year-old has had a great first season in the Premier League after taking a few games to get used to the higher level. He has scored 17 goals in 32 matches in the top flight, with Harry Kane the only Englishman who has netted more in the division. Perhaps more impressively the forward has become the Rs’ only real chance of not being relegated to the Championship.

The Blues may have been enticed by this, but they also may want Austin to help fill their ‘home-grown’ quota. Each club’s 25 man squad in the Premier League must contain at least eight players who has been produced by English clubs.

At the same time the Stamford Bridge outfit need to reinforce their front line because of the injury problems current first choice Diego Costa has been suffering. The 26-year-old has been struggling with hamstring issues throughout his debut season. Although Loic Remy is a great reserve, Didier Drogba isn’t getting any younger at 37-years-old and manager Jose Mourinho may want a replacement for the Ivorian.
