The 24 year old has struggled to force his way into Luis Enrique’s first team set-up and is seen by Brendan Rodgers a replacement for exit bound England man Glen Johnson.

Montoya has now agreed personal terms with the Anfield outfit and now the two teams will discuss a price for the right-back.

Even though Montoya isn’t a regular starter at the Nou Camp it would be a surprise that Enrique would sanction a sale given his side is banned from signing players in 2015, and as such any potential sale could leave them short on options.

Montoya made his Barcelona debut in 2011 but has managed just 33 La Liga starts over the past five seasons and may well be ready for a new challenge, especially if the Catalan giants manage to tie down first choice right-back Dani Alves to a new contract.
