The former defender stayed at Anfield for the entirety of his career, and has some regrets over never having played under the great managers of his era. Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, as well as the Portuguese manager were in charge of the Reds’ rivals during his playing days in the Premier League.

Carragher wasn’t that hard done by with the Reds though, getting to work with coaches such as Rafa Benitez, Kenny Dalglish, and Gerard Houllier at the Merseyside club. He also got to win the Champions League, FA Cup, and Capital One Cup.

Mourinho has won his third Premier League title with the Stamford Bridge outfit, and has also won the Capital One Cup this season. The Champions League is the only competition the 53-year-old hasn’t won during his two spells with the Blues.

The Anfield hero said: “Would I like to have played under him? Of course. When you’re a player you always want to play for the top managers; you want to know what the secret is. What do they do in training? Would they get more out of me as a player?

“I was fortunate to play for a few managers who were brilliant for my career but you do always wonder. Mourinho, Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger… When you’re not part of that club there’s always a mystique.”
