Manchester United are interested in Liverpool target and Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, reports the Metro.
The Red Devils will be in need of a new stopper should current number one David De Gea leave for Real Madrid in the summer. Meanwhile, their Merseyside rivals are on the lookout for a new man between the sticks to replace Simon Mignolet, who hasn’t been in the best of form during the current campaign.
The Bosnian has long been linked to Anfield, but it looks like United boss Louis van Gaal is now keen to hijack any move from his counterpart Brendan Rodgers to sign the 27-year-old. Begovic’s current deal at the Britannia runs out in 2016, meaning that the Potters may be keen to sell if he doesn’t sign a new contract in the near future.
If the keeper does sign for the Old Trafford outfit then he will have some big shoes to fill. De Gea was named in the PFA team of the season, and is one of the main reasons that United have only conceded 35 goals in 35 Premier League matches this season.
