Four consecutive away defeats for City has truly put paid to their title challenge but perhaps it says something about the competition for top spot in the Premier League this season that they can still find themselves in second place.
The reigning Premier League champions – though not for long – have been average bordering on abysmal for most of 2015, if not the campaign, and many expect Manuel Pellegrini to lose his job at the end of the season for what will be a failure on all fronts despite a quite hefty summer outlay.
This game at White Hart Lane is almost the sending off party for him and you’d expect a number of City stars who haven’t cut the mustard will be joining him.
Mauricio Pochettino meanwhile has talked up of a ‘big summer’ in north London with a number of Spurs stars expected, like those at City, to be on the chopping block. They might be even playing for their WHL futures here today.
City have won seven of their last eight outings with Spurs, the last three resulting in 6-0, 5-1 and 4-1 defeats so expect the goals to go flying in especially as Spurs have failed to keep a clean sheet in 11 league games.
Ben Davies has already been ruled out and Danny Rose is a major doubt with Vlad Chiriches expected to start in his stead.
Meanwhile, Yaya Toure will be kept out with a troublesome hamstring injury, Kompany and Jovetic are also missing, but the troublesome Samir Nasri, and Gael Clichy look set to return to the squad.
