The Serbian international, who has been a regular in Jose Mourinho’s side since re-joining from Benfica last January, believes winning the league this season is no less than what the team deserve:

“I feel very proud, we are very happy for the supporters.” He told the club’s official website.

“To be champions you have to be the best team all season. We’ve shown character and quality. We still have three games to play but we are champions, we are strong and I’m happy about that.”

Matic was part of the starting line-up that clinched the title thanks to Eden Hazard’s first-half goal against a stubborn Eagles side and the 26-year-old midfielder is delighted to have fulfilled Mourinho’s main objective at the start of the campaign:

“We’ve been in first position since very early. We always feel pressure because we play for a big club, we have to try to win every game, but we’ve done what we needed to do.” he stressed.

The Blues have won the league with three matches to spare and face a tricky test against top-four hunting Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon as they look to complete the campaign by avoiding defeat at home in the league.
