The Reds looked to have missed out on the Brazilian after it appeared that Italian champions Juventus has agreed a deal for his signature.

However, after a conversation with Brazilian national team boss Dunga, who informed him that he needed to be playing regular first team football to have a shot of taking the number one spot for his country, he decided against a move to Turin for fear of being understudy to Gianluigi Buffon.

Brendan Rodgers has previously expressed a desire to sign a new goalkeeper before Simon Mignolet rediscovered his form before Christmas, but Neto is aware that he will have an easier time ousting the Belgian than he will Buffon.

The news could mean that current second choice Brad Jones may find himself without a club as his contract expires at the end of the season.
