The 24 year old is a bit-part player at the Nou Camp and may well be ready for a fresh challenge and has apparently already agreed personal terms with the Premier League side.

Brendan Rodgers will say farewell to Glen Johnson when his contract with the club expires in the summer and as such needs to bring in a fresh full-back option.

Montoya is a quality performer but with Brazilian star Dani Alves a firm first team regular at Barcelona it’s clear the former Spanish Under 21 international has his work cut out at the Catalan club.

With Barcelona being the subject of a transfer ban, which is due to run up until the January 2016 window, one wonders if the La Liga side would be willing to lose any first team squad members this summer.
