The 30 year old is arguably the best defender in Brendan Rodgers’ squad but for some reason Liverpool elected to hold out on a new deal for the Slovakian until earlier this month and this has left the tough tackler considering his options.

Skrtel has just a year to run on his current deal and as such Liverpool will see the player’s value in the transfer market plummet if they do not tie him down to a new contract sharpish.

Roberto Mancini will look to take advantage of the situation with a move to offer Skrtel a chance of a new challenge at the San Siro.

Liverpool paid Zenit £6.5m for Skrtel back in January 2008 and he has proven a hugely successful purchase, racking up 290 appearances for the Premier League side.
