Liverpool are said to be close to completing their first signing of the summer by snapping up 17-year-old Portuguese starlet Paulinho, according to the Daily Mirror.
The teenager, who is currently on the books of third division A.D. Sanjoanense, is in England this week to put the finishing touches on a contract to bring him to keep him on Merseyside.
The deal, which is being negotiated by his father, will see him link up with the Reds next season, and will link up with compatriot Joao Teixeira in the Reds development squad.
Teixeira has spent some of the season on loan at Championship club Brighton, where he had impressed until he suffered a broken leg.
Another young Portuguese player on the Reds’ books is defender Tiago Ilori, who has also been out on loan with Spanish side Almeria, though it is unknown what kind of future he still has at the club.
Rodgers is keen to continue picking up exciting young players over the next few months to integrate into his side.
