The 24-year-old has just over a year left on his current deal with the south coast club, but talks over an extension has stalled lately.

Manager Ronald Koeman has told the England international that he wants an answer one way or another, stating: “In football, if you go in the last season of your contract, we don’t like that.”

However, despite the rumoured interest in his signature from some of the league’s heavier hitters, he has suggested that a move away from St Mary’s isn’t at the forefront of his mind.

“I am enjoying my football for Southampton, playing week-in, week-out, and it is an up-and-coming club so I am happy playing for Southampton and happy to stay at Southampton as well,” he said.

“My agent is negotiating, so I will just leave it with my agent and I am just going to concentrate on playing my football.”

Clyne has seen his stock rise considerably with the Saints, and he has played a key role in the club’s impressive form this term, racking up 30 appearances and scoring two goals so far.
