The Bavarians started the game with the risky plan of marking the Barca front three man to man, which predictably ended up with Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Luis Suarez running riot for the first fifteen minutes until Pep Guardiola changed to a system with four at the back. Manuel Neuer kept the Bundesliga champions in the game, with several great saves including this Suarez one on one.

However, after Guardiola changed his side’s tactics they grew in to the game, and they started to impose themselves on the La Liga leaders. Robert Lewandowski probably should have put this chance away.

However, the break came at the the wrong time for the German side, and Barcelona were back on top in the second half. Neymar wasted several chances to put the home side ahead, and Neuer once again had to come to the rescue in a one on one situation.

In a topsy turvy game that really put the Premier League to shame in terms of quality, Munich managed to fashion a few dangerous looking chances from set-pieces. The Catalan side were able to deal with them relatively comfortably in the end though, and the game continued at a frenetic pace.

This was when Messi seemed to decide to take the game by the scruff of the neck, scoring two amazing goals in the space of five minutes to put the first leg to bed. The first was a rocket in to the bottom corner.

On the second the forward made Jerome Boateng fall over before executing a delightful lob with his weaker right foot.

After the double salvo Bayern looked shell shocked, and weren’t able to react at all. To make matters even worse for Guardiola on his return to the Nou Camp Neymar made it three in injury time!

Do Bayern Munich have any chance of getting back in to this?
