The Ghana international plays at left-back. The Blues are already quite strong in that department, with Filipe Luis and Cesar Azpilicueta operating there. As a result signing the Bundesliga star could either mean that one of the pair is going to leave Stamford Bridge, or that they are bringing in yet another player to loan out before eventually selling.
The 20-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season in the German top flight this season, making 28 appearances for Augsburg after signing from SpVgg Greuther Furth last summer. The youngster has also played 11 times for his country, including a start in the African Cup of Nations final back in February.
According to l’Equipe, Chelsea will make a bid of nearly €15 million for the defender, which would equal around £11.2 million and be a lot to spend on a player who may not even play for the first XI. It also doesn’t make a huge amount of sense when they need players to fulfil the home-grown ruling.
Still, l’Equipe are typically a reliable source when it comes to transfer rumours, and so any prospective move could result in an overhaul in west London.
