Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero will be put on a special training programme in pre-season to avoid a repeat of this injury-plagued campaign, according to reports.

The Argentine international has not been at his best this term, missing large chunks of the season through injury, though his goals record is still impressive as he leads the Premier League scoring charts.

Still, Aguero’s absence and also a recent run without scoring has contributed to a failed attempt to retain their title this season from City, and the need to get their star player firing next year is clearly a big one as they look to get back to their best.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the club could prepare a special training regime for pre-season to help give the 26-year-old the rest he needs ahead of next season.

Aguero could miss City’s tour of Australia in July altogether in an attempt to get him playing fewer games, with hamstring problems being his main concern this year.
