The Gunners were not mentioned as contenders to snap up the exciting young Dutchman, but Wenger was quizzed about his thoughts on the highly-rated 21-year-old at his Friday morning press conference.

Depay certainly looks an exciting signing for United ahead of next season, having become regarded as one of the best young players in Europe after his sensational displays in the Eredivisie.

Still, Arsenal already have a number of options in that part of the pitch, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud to choose from in attack, with Depay able to play both in midfield and up front.
