The 24-year-old’s contract finishes at the end of next season, and the Bundesliga side are likely trying to get some sort of return for the player before he can depart for nothing in a year. However, sporting director Michael Zorc has also confirmed that there have been no bids made for the midfielder yet, which could leave them stuck with the German international.

The Premier League sides could be waiting until they can get their target for nothing, but more likely they will make their moves later in the summer. The player is leaving BVB in turmoil, with boss Jurgen Klopp also leaving at the end of the season. Thomas Tuchel has been announced as the next manager, but he could have a tough job to do without his star midfielder.

Zorc said: “Our talks came to the conclusion that he won’t extend his contract and will leave in the summer. But that depends on what offers land on my table and until now we have received no offers for Gundogan.”

With the confirmation that Dortmund are trying to sell Gundogan, could the Red Devils or the Gunners pounce?
