There was a crazy moment during the USA Women’s team’s match with their Republic of Ireland counterparts on Sunday, as captured by the US Soccer official YouTube account.

The US comfortably won the match 3-0, but it was an incident while they scored their first that will have annoyed some fans. A corner was whipped in and subsequently volleyed at goal by one of the American players, hitting the Irish defender on the line in the face. The keeper rushed to her teammate’s side to help, but the USA team carried on playing and tapped the ball in to the mostly open net.

There will be debate over whether the keeper should have carried on playing or the Americans should have stopped, but either way it was a ridiculous moment with neither side really believing what had happened.

Perhaps more amazingly though it was goalscorer Abby Wambach’s 179th goal for her country. She went on to grab her 180th later in the match, with the total hit in a gargantuan 240 games for her nation.

Should the goalie have left her teammate on the floor? Or should the other team have stopped?
