Liverpool have been given the green light by Barcelona to sign full-back Martin Montoya with defender Dani Alves having reportedly signed a new contract with the Spanish giants.

The Reds are said to have agreed personal terms with the Spaniard and are now just waiting for an offer of £7.3m to be accepted.

Goal.com report that Alves – whose future has been under intense speculation with his contract set to expire in the summer – will put to pen to paper over a new two-year deal in the coming weeks.

According to the Metro, Luis Enrique will therefore now allow Montoya to move on at the end of the season, and Liverpool view the 24-year-old as a direct replacement to Glen Johnson.

The right-back has won four trophies – two La Liga titles, the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de España – and Rodgers believes the defender, despite aged just 24, could bring valuable experience to the Anfield dressing room.
