The Merengues were defeated on aggregate by Juventus this week in the semi-final, and thus will not be able to defend the continental title they won last year against fierce rivals Barcelona in Berlin.

The capital club were defeated in the first leg—in Turin—after efforts from Alvaro Morata and Carlos Tevez cancelled out Cristiano Ronaldo’s effort.

The Portuguese superstar struck after 23 minutes on Wednesday night, in the return leg at the Bernabeu, but Real old boy Morata proved to be Juve’s saviour with a second-half effort.

Madrid were unable to respond and the Old Lady ultimately advance to the final against Barca.

The elimination, coupled with Real’s poor performance, has prompted speculation that Ancelotti will be removed from his role as manager at the end of the season.

However, Brazil left-back Marcelo has expressed his desire for the iconic Italian coach to remain at the club.

“He is a winner,” the player began, speaking to RMC, “for me, the Mister [Ancelotti] will continue, he’s a great coach.”
