It was a disappointing last home game for the veteran midfielder, as his side crashed to defeat against a Crystal Palace team who have looked rejuvenated under Alan Pardew.

It was a poor performance from Brendan Rodgers’ men, who struggled to control the game despite taking the lead. Palace seemed to come alive after going behind to an Adam Lallana strike, and goals from Jason Puncheon and Wilfried Zaha put Liverpool to the sword. Glenn Murray put the game to bed late on, tucking in from the rebound after Simon Mignolet kept out his initial penalty attempt.

Although this game will obviously not have been the way Gerrard wanted to end his time at Anfield, it will certainly not be the game he is remembered for. The 34-year-old has been the club’s saviour many times over the years, and he will forever go down as a legend of the game.

He left the field for the final time with his head bowed in disappointment, but he was still cheered off by both sets of fans as he walked off.
