Arsenal host Sunderland on Wednesday knowing a win will confirm third place in the Premier League.
The Gunners have several injury problems going in to this match with the relegation-threatened Black Cats. Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Debuchy, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Danny Welbeck are ruled out for the North Londoners, while Laurent Koscielny will have a late fitness test to assess if he can play.
They will have to break down a Sunderland team that needs only a point to guarantee top-flight survival, and are likely to sit deep and frustrate as a result. Dick Advocaat will have to attempt this without experienced defender Wes Brown though, as well as Liam Bridcutt and Jordi Gomez. They surprised Everton in their last match, winning 2-0 despite being on the back foot for much of the encounter.
Arsenal will want to avoid a repeat of this, but the omens aren’t great after their loss to Swansea City last weekend. The Welsh side won 1-0 in a game that was similar to that at Goodison Park, but with the Gunners playing the role of Everton.
