The England international has already told manager Brendan Rodgers that he wants out of Anfield this summer and City will now throw their hat into the ring with the likes of Chelsea for his signature.

And the deposed champions will offer the 20-year-old a stunning £200,000-per-week to tempt him to the Etihad Stadium.

Sterling was booed by Reds fans at the annual end of season awards show earlier this week as he picked up Young Player of the Season gong, and club chiefs will look to hold fresh talks with him before the weekend.

Liverpool owners are prepared to play hardball with Sterling, just as they did with Luis Suarez two years ago, though they are wary not to enter into a war of words with his agent as they see Sterling as a big part of their future.
