There has been ongoing speculation about the striker’s future in recent weeks, with various reports linking him to a return to Manchester United, a move to Liverpool, a permanent move to Madrid, and even a switch to the MLS’s Orlando City.
El Universal were the first to break the story a couple of weeks ago, but the rumour has started to gather significantly more momentum in the last few days.
If he does return to the Liga MX, it is expected that Club America and former side Chivas would be his most likely destination – though cash-rich Tigres UANL would also be interested in the 26 year old.
It is thought the fee could be anywhere up to £12 million.
