Despite beating SC Bastia 3-0 in the final game of the season, Marseille have failed to return to the Champions League, meaning that Bielsa’s future at the club remains uncertain.

The legendary Argentine coach only moved to the Stade Velodrome last summer, and despite starting the season strongly, faded away towards the end of the campaign.

A four-game losing streak ultimately saw OM fall out of the title race, while the Olympians also dropped out of the Champions League places as AS Monaco beat FC Lorient away.

Failure to return to the Champions League means that Bielsa’s future at the club remains uncertain, with Samp looking to profit from any uncertainty in Provence.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that with Sinisa Mihajlovic unlikely to remain at the Genoa-based club beyond the summer, Samp may well be in need of a replacement.

The club president is believed to rate Bielsa highly and is considering the former Athletic Bilbao coach as a potentially ideal replacement for Mihajlovic.

West Ham United are also believed to be considering Bielsa as a replacement for Sam Allardyce this summer.
