Its simple to watch:
Preston North End will hope to make it 10th time lucky when they take on Swindon in the League 1 playoff final at Wembley.
Simon Grayson’s men have reached the play off, in all three tiers of the football league, on 9 occasions in the last 26 years and have lost each time.
Last season they lost to Rotherham, 4-2, however after a convincing 4-0 win over Chesterfield they will be confident heading into the final.
As with any final, superstition plays a large part and for John Welch that means keeping his beard.
The 31-year-old former Liverpool midfielder shaved off the beard before North End lost to Rotherham in last season’s play-off semi-final but has vowed not to get rid of it until promotion is secured. “The beard will probably stay,” he told BBC Radio Lancashire.
“The reason being I shaved it last year against Rotherham and obviously what happened, happened.”
Swindon almost had a close shave of their own in their semi-final win over Sheffield United.
Winning 2-1 from the first leg, the Robin’s made history as they played out a 5-5 draw with the Blades, the highest scoring playoff game ever securing a 7-6 aggregate win.
The form guide would appear to favour Preston. Their manager, Grayson has won promotion from the third tier on four occasions while the club have only lost once in their last 19 games compared to Swindon 7 defeats in the same period.
In addition Preston also have in their ranks, the league one top scorer, Joe Garner.
The forward scored 26 goals last season and has six goals in his last six games.
The Lilywhites have a superior head-to-head record against Swindon having won 15, drawn eight and lost nine of their previous 32 encounters.
When they met during the regular season, Swindon won 1-0 at home with Preston prevailing 3-0 in front of their own fans.
