Johnson, who joined the Reds from Portsmouth in 2009, is set to become a free agent next month when his contract expires and it looks as if the club will not be offering the 30-year-old a new deal.

The defender posted a message via his official Twitter account in which he appears to say goodbye to the Kop supporters:

Mirror Online reports the right-back has held talks with numerous clubs across Europe and could move abroad in the summer as a switch to Serie A is on the cards.

The former Chelsea man will be hoping to bow out on a high as the Reds face a difficult game against the Potters at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday afternoon. A win for the visitors will be enough to claim a top-five finish in the Barclays Premier League and book their place in the Europa League for next season.
