The 27 year old Argentine international is now Louis van Gaal’s first choice target to help solidify his defence, with Mats Hummels set to stay at Borussia Dortmund, and Man United must now meet Valencia’s £36m valuation to land the no-nonsense tough tackler.
Man United have looked shaky at the back for large portions of the season and have had to rely heavily on David De Gea as a last line of defence and one can well see why van Gaal would be pushing to bring in another central defender.
Otamendi has impressed since moving to the Mestalla but may well be tempted by a high-profile move that could help him secure a more prominent role in the Argentine national team set-up.
Van Gaal has already snapped up Memphis Depay this summer, the PSV Eindhoven man having completed a £25m move to Old Trafford, and it appears the Dutch boss will be spending big this summer as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of a push to secure major honours in 2015/16.
