City are desperate to win the race for Sterling’s signature, with the England international widely expected to quit Anfield at the end of this season after refusing to sign a new contract.

This has seen a host of top clubs show an interest in his services, with City now hoping they can sway the deal in their favour by offering Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko to the Reds as part of the move, according to the Daily Mirror.

Although Dzeko has not been a regular at the Etihad Stadium this season, he has previously shown himself to be a fine performer at this level, scoring 26 goals last season to fire the club to the Premier League title.

With Liverpool in need of new signings up front, a deal to bring in Dzeko could be very tempting for manager Brendan Rodgers.
